Red Rock Canyon
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
"Red Rock Canyon is beautiful, great hiking for all levels and a great
place for taking awsome photos. If you do go make sure you stop at
Calico Basin which is just up the road from the Red Rock Canyon Park
entrance. It is open to the public and no fee. You can have a picnic,
climb the rocks or just sit and view the beauty scenery.
Pinball Hall of Fame Museum
http://www.pinballmuseum.org/
4500 square feet is dedicated to the Pinball Hall of Fame, where the
entire family can enjoy non-violent pinball arcade games for small
dinero. All machines are available for play, so not only can you see
them, you can actually play your old favorites.
This is one amazing place for pinball fanatics.
Neon Sign Graveyard
http://www.neonmuseum.org/
This is a perfect place for picture taking.
This is one place I've never been to, and do plan on going to with everyone.
This place NEEDS advance reservations.
Tour prices are $15.00
This tour will more than likely be at 2pm.
In which case our movie screening might be moved around to later time
or Saturday.
One small camera is allowed for picture taking.
Anything else is considered commercial photo taking and will be prohibited
BE ADVISED:
No backpacks, camera bags, large bags, or tripods are allowed on
tours. We recommend that visitors wear close-toed shoes. Boneyard
tours are guided and visitors must remain with the group. The Boneyard
is full of broken glass and rusty metal so we ask that everyone stick
with the group for your safety and the safety of our collection.
Anyone failing to follow guidelines will kindly be asked to leave.
Anyone who wants to attend this, please let me know ASAP.
I will try to find out the earliest they need our tour group info.
Hoover Damn
http://hooverdamtourcompany.com/
This one is pretty self explanatory.
And this is one place where we will most definitely need a rental car/van
The Hoover Dam Visitor Center is open every day of the year except for
Thanksgiving and Christmas. The facility opens at 9:00 AM, and the
first tour departs at 8:35 AM. The last tour departs at 4:10 PM and
the facility closes at 5:00 PM.
Since we won't be able to do both Hoover Damn and Neon Sign Graveyard.
We might move one of these to Saturday.
Palms Casino and Rio Casino
These are two casinos that are off the strip
and about 5mins from The Orleans.
While these are in fact casinos, they would be easier to visit Friday
rather than Saturday.
The Palms Casino
http://www.palms.com/
The Rio Hotel & Casino
http://www.riolasvegas.com/casinos/rio/hotel-casino/property-home.shtml
Right now I am looking at Friday night as our Cinematic Titanic and
live capping event night.
This will take place in one of our ballrooms at The Orleans.
It would be nice for the people that are for sure going, to e-mail be
back and let me know what interests you.
Places you for sure want to go to and see.
There is going to be a part three to this update coming soon.
This will be a MASSIVE update
As I will be talking about Saturday's activities, which will be the casinos.
and every single things we can do at each and every casino.
This whole day is dedicated to visiting all of the casinos along the main strip.
This will be an all day event of walking. LOTS of walking.
But it will be well worth it.
Plan on taking lots of money for gambling and shopping.
We will be having lunch and dinner on the strip as well.
The following will be added trip information and everything we plan on
doing Thursday & Friday
There have been some changes to the attendance list.
First of all I'm sad to report that two cappers will not be joining us
after all.
Nyssa and Discoboy have bowed out.
Here is an updated list of everyone planning on going(so far)
animebabe(Carmen)
King Dinosaur
Laura Powers
Cyan
Weird1(Daniel)"maybe"
CaptainEvilElvis and Porpoise
TinaW
Unreality(Fred) "maybe"
TurkeyVolumnGuessingMan (Fred)
As far as Thursday is concerned, who ever plans on arriving this day,
needs to let me know
as I need to know who's coming to the welcome dinner and bowling night.
It would be especially nice if our Las Vegas locals could make it.
Friday, after the morning activities and lunch will be the tour of the
outside area of Las Vegas casinos.
This will be the opportunity to explore what all of Las Vegas has to
offer besides casinos.
Anyone can go on their own, or we can plan on groups of the places of interests.
Here is a list of places that will be of interest to see.

Even if you can't get a good deal, I'll do my best to get you some kind of discount.
But please search around first.
Also, after you have booked your room, please notify me in someway, e-mailed is preferred.
Give me your full name the room is under.
That way I will try and get everyone on the same floor or even next door to each other.

Capper Roll Call, Sound Off Now!
Hello once again fellow cappers!
It's time once again for another major update for the Capfest.
And this is another big update!!
For those of you that Twitter.
I now have a twitter account.
You can reach me at boskolost
So far, here is a list of cappers that have either e-mailed or messaged me on HCC
about attending this years Capfest.
Animebabe(Carmen)
King Dinosaur
Weird1(Daniel)
CaptainEvilElvis and Porpoise
TinaW
Unreality(Fred) "maybe"
Nyssa and Discoboy
TurkeyVolumnGuessingMan (Fred)
Anyone who hasn't notified me about either going or maybe going, please get back to me soon.
You can e-mail, twitter or send me a chat message on HCC to let me know.
I'm trying to get together lots of things.
I'm also setting up grab bags with lots of cool things for each capper.
Car/van rental?
This isn't mandatory, But it would be wise for all of us to chip in and get a car/van for the places that we want to visit.
It would be better than busing or taking taxis everywhere.
There is a Budget Car Rental right across the street from The Orleans Hotel.
Here is their address 4475 W.TROPICANA
LAS VEGAS, NV 89103 702-736-1212
website: http://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/home/home.ex
Who loves porn?
Being Las Vegas, there is always an abundance of porn stores.
And Staying at the Orleans, you will have the pleasure of having an Adult Emporium right across the street.
De Ja Vu Adult Emporium is open 24/7.
I'm sure there are a few of you that will love to take a peak inside.
Welcome Dinner.
Thursday is the day in which I'm hoping that everyone arrives so we all can meet up for a big dinner to get to know everyone.
The place I want to have the dinner at is Hikari's.
Hikari's is a Japanese Stake house.
The setting is the type where they cook the food right in front of you on the cooking tables and
you have the chef throw knives in the air and fancy the food up.
They have a wide variety of food choices from Chicken, steak and seafood.
And is moderately priced for all the food you get.
After dinner, if we all are in the mood, I would like to go back to the Orleans and bowl a few games.
Orleans has open bowling all night long into the wee hour of the day.
I don't want to stay up all night long, as I have a Friday morning movie screening planned for us.
Friday Morning Breakfast & Coffee
Breakfast(8am/9am) will be at Orleans Either at the buffet or their Courtyard Cafe.
We will follow up with Coffee at Seattle's Best Coffee, which is also at the Orleans.
We wanna try to get finished up before 11am or so as we need to get into the first showing of the movie.
Friday Morning Private Movie Theater Capping Event
One of our capping events will consist of us using a private movie theater
where we are excluded away from the other movie goers so we will have the opportunity to make fun of the movie
and make all sorts of jokes, without disturbing others.
This is something that is not 100% guaranteed.
And will be a last minute decision, if we can do it or not.
I do have something else planned if this can not work out.
Each theater can only hold eight people.
The movie we will be seeing all depends on what movie is released that day(weekend)
If we fill up both rooms, there is a chance we will be seeing two different movies.
Both rooms have its own Dolby Surround System.
Alcohol will not be allowed in these rooms
And since I'm responsible for both of these rooms, they MUST be kept clean.
You will be responsible for purchasing your own movie ticket.
After the movie would be a good time to have lunch.
While we can each where ever, I would like to suggest to the Cappers who don't live on the west coast
to eat at In & Out Burger. A burger place that has to be visited at least once in your lifetime.
Part 2 of this update will be out shortly.
Which I will discuss the places I plan for us to visit.
As usual, my e-mail is: john steffens (boskolost@gmail.com)

Capfest UpDate... Part 2
Hello fellow Capfest attendees,
I thought I'd use this update to talk about some potential great news.
Now bear with me as this will be a long update with lots of ideas thrown around.
And might even need some feedback
Or help exploring these ideas.
Ever since I've talked about having Capfest here in Las Vegas
I wanted some special nights for us to do some cap related things.
Which would have us convene at someone's place.
Since I was going to get a new apartment, I thought that would work out perfect.
Well, things have changed and our crowd might be too big for a small apartment.
And since I work at a casino, I have certain perks.
Well it had occurred to me that using one of our convention rooms(ballrooms) for our Capfest headquarters would be fantastic.
It the perfect size to fit our group in.
We have all the media equipment to set up basically anything for our needs.
And other things in general that we might need or want.
I was at work today and I checked into renting out one of the convention rooms.
I was told that I could get a special discount or having something worked out.
Now this is something that I will be spending out of my own money
Which I think is fair since I'm not spending any kind of money for travel or hotel needs.
The question is..."Do we want the convention room for one day or two?"
Price includes set up and clean up and we will have access to the room all day long
Or if for two days then all day long for those two days.
Why do we even need a headquarters room?
Well this is what I would like for our group to do.
One thing or multiple things one each main night(Fri & Sat)
Mystery Science Theater 3000 night- We all decide on a MST3K episode to watch and enjoy.
And then even the possibility to have MST3K episodes to contentiously play as were in and out of the convention room.
A BRAND NEW Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic screening- If it's timed perfectly, there should be a brand new Rifftrax or Cinematic Titanic episode out at or around this time.
What I would prefer is a New Rifftrax short followed by a New Cinematic Titanic episode.
Caption This! Night- This is where we would take selected movies, TV shows, cartoons, commercials and infomercials that are screen grabbed
and projected on a screen and we sit and cap like were were doing it on our websites.
Bad Movie Riff Night- We all select a bad, bad movie to sit and watch and cap together.
Now of course these things can be put together so we are doing two things each night
Instead of cramming in everything into one night, leaving one night stale.
Another reason might be if some of the events we plan to do is outside and we get rained out.
Slight posswibility, but if it happens we have a place to convene.
I mentioned that there are extras to the headquarters room.
Nice little extras that would make out movie and caption nights more enjoyable.
First off, you can't have a movie without popcorn,
I'm looking into getting us one of those old fashioned popcorn cart poppers.
So we will contentiously have theater type popcorn.
Another thing is beverages.
I'm pretty sure they won't let us have alcohol in the convention room.
I'm still looking into this.
But I have the option to have bottled water and canned soda provided for us in the room.
I'm not sure how much I will be charged for this, but since I work there, I might be able to cut a deal.
Food will be another option during the events.
Our best bet is for the movie nights, is to order pizza for Sabbaro's
Which is located down in our foodcourt.
We can order full pizzas and bring them upstairs with us.
Other options for food include Subway and Fuddrucker's.
If you need to stay up with caffinee, we have a Seattle's Best coffee place which is open til 11pm
Now other "little" things I would like for the room is some sort of Guestbook for all of us to sign.
Another thing I would like is some sort of official banner and poster board that stands up against an easel
That signifies it's Capfest 2009.
The banner I would like to hang above the door and the poster board is to put with the easel just outside the door
all pointing the way to where our room is.
Another thing I would like is one or two official Caption sign in page that hangs on the wall(huge sheet of white paper with the picture)
Where it's a picture we all have to cap and sign.
It would be cool if we could place about six or eight of them all along the wall of the headquarters room.
One more sort of important thing
and I can get this from the casino, but might be charged for this.
I think it would be easier to see if someone that is driving into Vegas that has a projection system that can be hooked up to a computer(using my laptop)
This is something else I'll be asking about when I go to work next.
I also wanted to ask if anybody has ideas on how to "dress up" the room more.
Making the room more to our style.
Other bits of information about the headquarters room.
Smoking- is done just outside in the lobby area.
Bathrooms- are on the same level just around the corner.
Mail access- we have a mailroom just outside the headquartes room if you need to mail a letter.
Internet access?
The only place where we have free internet access is downstairs in the Seattle's Best Coffee house lounge.
This will also be the place for out afternoon event of Coffee & Postcards.
This loungs has two HDTV's and lots of leather furniture and table and chairs where we can all spread out and cap our postcards.
Personally, I would like to have this headquarters room for both days.
I think this would be nice for everyone to sit and relax.
Have a place to watch our movies.
A place where we can come and go.
Also a place to meet up for when we need to meet up in the vans to go out driving.
So I want to ask all of you what you think of this idea
and need your input to make this headquarters room more our style?
What else can we do??
Another update will be out shortly.
More to tell!!

Capfest UpDate… Finally!
First, I'd like to apologize to everyone on not having recent updated information.
I got busy during the holidays, then they passed.
Then I got consumed with getting screen grabs for HCC.
Another reason is that things have been kind of shaky at my job.
And things STILL are.
While no matter what happens, Capfest 2009 is still going to happen.
It's just that a few things that I want to happen at the casino where I work might not happen.
People have been wondering where the majority of us are going to be staying.
The best place for us to stay at is where I work at.
The Orleans.
It's location is perfect.
And I also might be able to get all of us 20% every night.
Now that were in the middle of a recession, our casino has been making the rooms a little cheaper.
Normally we are very reasonable, and now even more so.
Orleans as added quite a few nice things.
We now have a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
Rocky Mountain offers lots of fantastic chocolates, candies and handful of varieties of caramel apples.
We now have a 24/7 food court that has Baskin Robbins, Subway, Sabbaro's and Fuddruckers.
We also have a Seattle's Best Coffee shop.
Another thing that I have planned is our private movie theater capping session.
Which I will discuss at a later entry.
Orleans is close to everything that we want to do from on the strip and off.
Of course you don't have to stay at The Orleans, but I thought it would be the best place for everyone.
I'm open to suggestions and anyone is free to stay at where they want to.
There is still much to talk about and discuss.
In my next entry I would like to talk about one of our days where we will be doing stuff off the strip(all the casinos)
